SKYE STEELE QUINTET DELUXE

"Steele makes his instrument sing joyously."
-- Frank Rubolino, Cadence Magazine

Phenomenal young violinist Skye Steele brings American popular songs of his own generation crashing head-on with influences ranging from Turkish Gypsy music, to Afro-Brazilian, to French Impressionism through his imaginatively-reconstructive arrangements. His own compositions combine driving, angular rhythms and darkly nuanced harmonies with an infectious sense of lyricism. Skye has performed and recorded with such diverse figures as Cyro Baptista, Rufus Wainwright, Butch Morris, Allesandra Beloni, Vince Giordano's Nighthawks, and Howard Fishman. He will be appearing with Christopher Hoffman, cello; Jonathan Finlayson, trumpet; Mike Effenberger, piano; John Hadfield, drums; and Mike Savino, bass. www.skyesteele.com

TERI ROIGER
“To hear Teri Roiger is to experience that peculiarly beautiful combination of improvisation, tone, feeling, and phrasing that are distinct elements of jazz freedom. She is made for those who still understand the meaning of the term ‘the real thing.’” Stanley Crouch, New York City

Applauded by jazz writers and fans around the world, from Jazz Hot in Paris to Playboy magazine, Teri Roiger's uniquely compelling vocal style is full of soul, swing, sincerity and sass. She delivers something very exceptional in her new ultra-hip CD of innovative jazz standards and original compositions. She breathes new possibilities into two Dewey Redman compositions with her original lyrics, a Herbie Nichols tune that has never before been recorded, and a seldom-heard jewel of Billy Strayhorn's. Already recognized as a compelling lyricist, this is the first time Teri has recorded her original music compositions, Still Life and Boo Dah. Referred to by musicians and jazz critics as "the real thing," she has been compared to jazz legends Abbey Lincoln, Billie Holiday, Carmen McRae and Anita O'Day, but this CD reveals that Teri has developed into a true individual jazz musician with her own sound. With Frank Kimbrough (piano), John Menegon (bass) and Matt Wilson (drums).

MARY FOSTER CONKLIN

“Scratch her witty tough-girl-from Jersey patter, and you’ll find a
sensitive artist (but not frail) with a wide-ranging boldly colored voice
and an open ear for off-beat material.”
THE WASHINGTON POST

Mary Foster Conklin can be heard in clubs nationwide, both as a soloist and
with Art Lillard's Heavenly Band. Praised by the NY Daily News as “a
delicious jazz-blues singer with a smoky, sensuous sound,” her sets are an
eclectic mix of contemporary material and lesser known standards. Crazy
Eyes, her debut CD, was listed as one of the ten best CDs of 1998 by In
Theatre Magazine. Her second recording, You’d Be Paradise, released in
2001, was a jazz bestseller for two years on www.CDBaby.com. At Sweet
Rhythm, she will preview cuts from her latest recording, Blues For
Breakfast, a tribute to the music of West Coast composer Matt Dennis, with
pianist/arranger John DiMartino, Sean Smith on bass, Tony Romano on guitar

MARILYN

"Her total control of tonality, tempo, timbre and time, the Sinatra-Ish precision of her
pronunciation and pauses and the smoky sound of here instrument combine to signal
immediately that she is that true rarity – a natural born jazz singer. Hers is the voice of
experience worn well, beautiful in its expressiveness and impressive in its depth. Her
very personal interpretations of …great American songbook boldly display her complete
command of the idiom and a true understanding of the nuance and irony inherent in their
lyrics of love and life.” Russ Musto.

JODY SANHAUS

"Sandhaus demonstrates estimably fresh depth and maturity ... 'Picnic' and the title track are standouts, as is the keenly intelligent treatment of 'Love Look Away' ..." Christopher Loudon, Jazz Times

"Every now and then a singer comes along who so personally delivers a song that we feel ourselves moved to feel more deeply; to appreciate life more fully, in all its joy and pain; and to see things as she sees them, as facets of the wonderful gift that is life.. Jody Sandhaus is such a singer." On her latest recording, 'A Fine Spring Morning (CAP), Sandhaus continues to explore the lesser known and seldom mined compositions of the great songwriters with honest, clear interpretations, always eschewing artifice. “In the eternal search for new and exciting jazz vocalists, [JS] is a good name to know…a cool and detached delivery that evokes the deification of the 1950’s jazz vocalist.” All About Jazz M.P. Gladstone She will be appearing with the Pete Malvinerni Trio. www.jodysandhaus.com
